Spring is right around the corner, bringing with it warmer days and the promise of renewal. As we look forward to this seasonal change, I want to take a moment to reflect on the recent winter weather and the incredible work of our team here at Pioneer Electric Cooperative.
During some of the coldest days of the year, our employees demonstrated exceptional dedication and responsiveness to the needs of our members. Despite freezing temperatures and challenging conditions, they worked tirelessly to ensure that electricity flowed reliably across our system. Thanks to their efforts, we experienced minimal outages, a testament to both their hard work and the strength of our infrastructure.
Our system also performed exceptionally well under the strain of increased demand for electricity, which surged as members relied on heating systems to stay warm. Months of preparation, including system maintenance and upgrades, paid off as we met this demand with resilience and efficiency. This level of reliability is what we strive for every day, and I am proud of the way our team rose to the occasion.
While we celebrate our system’s performance, it’s important to acknowledge the financial impact of winter demand. On January 22, we experienced a demand peak that will result in about $500,000 in wholesale power costs over the next 11 months. The impact of just a 15-minute period that day affects the price you pay for electricity, which is why we encourage energy efficiency and conservation, especially during extreme weather events.
We also understand that many of our members experienced higher-than-normal electric bills this winter, and we know that can be a burden. Colder temperatures often lead to increased energy use, especially when heating systems work harder to keep homes comfortable.
Even if you leave your thermostat set on 70 degrees, a 30-degree day causes it to run continuously.
At Pioneer Electric, we are here to help you navigate these challenges by offering resources to manage energy costs, including home energy assessments, payment assistance, rate options, and personalized account assistance. If you have concerns about your bill, please reach out — our team is here to help find solutions that work for you.
By working together, we can manage costs while maintaining the reliable service you expect.
As we transition into warmer months, I want to thank our members for their understanding and cooperation during this demanding season. At Pioneer Electric, we remain committed to keeping you informed and prepared, ensuring that your needs are met no matter the weather.
Thank you for trusting us to power your homes and businesses. Together, we’ll continue to power a brighter future.
