At Pioneer Electric, we believe that thoughtful planning and practical investments are key to maintaining reliable, affordable service for our members. That means addressing challenges and making improvements that support both our team and the communities we serve. With that in mind, I want to share some important updates about how we’re preparing for the future.
Our current headquarters in downtown Greenville has served us well for decades, but like any aging facility, it’s beginning to show signs of wear. Renovations are necessary, including a new roof and plumbing updates. These improvements are critical to ensure the safety and functionality of the space our employees rely on each day.
We expect to begin construction on this project by early next year.
A few years ago, we began exploring the idea of building a new headquarters complex. While that project remains a possibility, we’ve made the decision to delay construction due to current economic conditions. We remain committed to being responsible stewards of your cooperative’s resources, and now is simply not the time for such a large capital investment.
However, we are actively considering the construction of a new operations center and warehouse on property we already own on Sherling Lake Road. This project would allow us to relocate our operations department and would provide several important benefits:
- Improved safety for office staff who currently must walk across a dangerous intersection between their parking area and our office. Relocating the warehouse and operations department would allow office personnel to park in a gated area on the same side of the street as our office, improving both convenience and safety.
- Better access for large trucks and equipment, which must navigate narrow downtown streets and a tricky underpass. Relocating operations to a more accessible location would allow for safer, more efficient movement of vehicles and materials.
- Faster response during outages made possible by having a dedicated space for staging crews, vehicles and materials during storm events. With more room to work and easier access for incoming support crews, we can improve coordination during large-scale outage situations.
These changes won’t just benefit our employees—they’ll help us serve you better. A more efficient operations center will mean quicker response times, improved storm readiness, and fewer disruptions to daily work.
We also understand that any major project raises questions about cost. I want to assure you that we are carefully evaluating this plan to ensure minimal impact to rates. Our goal is always to provide safe, reliable electric service at the lowest possible cost.
As we move forward, we’ll continue to communicate openly and clearly about our plans. We appreciate your trust in Pioneer Electric as we strive to serve you with integrity, foresight and care.
Thank you for allowing us to power your lives—today and into the future.
